Hellen is a post-doc in the Energy & Resources group of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable development of Utrecht University. Her research interests include hybrid (sustainable) entrepreneurship in complex contexts, design of business models for sustainability, an equitable and sustainable energy transition, and action research. She carried out her PhD at Campus Fryslân, University of Groningen. This involved interdisciplinary work on hybrid entrepreneurship, in spatially remote regions in Europe. She carried out qualitative fieldwork in The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. She is currently investigating locally-driven energy transition, through energy communities.
