In this project of the Religious Matters in an Entangled World, I researched one resilient shrine in Kwahu, Ghana. In my research, I traced the trajectories surrounding the emergence and rise of the Kwakore shrine. I look at how the shrine positioned its activities despite the influence of the Basel Mission in the Kwahu and surrounding communities. I situate the development of the shrine in the diverse religious landscape of Ghana, by studying strategies the shrine uses to remain important and powerful in contemporary Ghana.
The data used for the research was collected through field interviews, observation, and participation in the shrine for a year. This required daily visits and interaction with people in and outside the shrine.
