Biography
Gabriël van Beusekom holds a degree in Child Development and Educational Sciences from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. After graduating, he started as a research assistant in the National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Survey (NLLFS) under Professors Henny Bos and Nanette Gartrell.
In 2014, Gabriël joined the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, pursuing his Ph.D. research supervised by Professors Henny Bos and Geertjan Overbeek. His research focused on identifying risk and protective factors for the mental health of sexual and gender-diverse youth. He successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in October 2018.
From 2018 to 2023, Gabriël worked as a researcher at The Netherlands Institute of Social Research (SCP), studying the overall well-being of LGBT individuals in the Netherlands.
Since February 2024, Gabriël is appointed as an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University in the Department of Interdisciplinary Social Science. His research focuses on the quality of sexual and gender diverse adolescents' social relationships and their mental health.
Gabriël is an active member of various scientific organizations, including the American Psychological Association (APA; Division 44: Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity), and the Nederlandse Vereniging Van Seksuologie (NVVS; Dutch Association of Sexologists).
