I am an Assistant Professor in Interdisciplinary Social Science at Utrecht University. My research focuses on the mental health and social position of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ+), and other sexual and gender diverse people. I am particularly interested in understanding why some groups within LGBTQ+ populations may be more vulnerable to mental health problems than others. This includes research on transgender and non-binary people and on the role of intersecting marginalized identities, for example among LGBTQ+ people with a religious or cultural minority background.

I obtained my PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2018, where I studied gender expression, sexual orientation, and mental health. Before joining Utrecht University, I worked at the Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP), where I conducted research on the lives and well-being of LGBTQ+ people in the Netherlands.

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student interested in a quantitative or qualitative research project or internship related to these topics, feel free to contact me.
