Associate Professor

Gijs Heuts studied Mathematics and Physics at Utrecht University, graduating in 2011. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University in 2015 under the supervision of Jacob Lurie. Subsequently he worked as a postdoc at Copenhagen University, until joining the Mathematical Institute at Utrecht University as Assistant Professor in 2017.

Gijs' current research interests are in algebraic topology, specifically the use of Goodwillie calculus and its interplay with periodic phenomena in homotopy theory, as well as the use of higher categories and operads.
