Gohar Parissa Rahimi is a Joint PhD Candidate at the University of Utrecht (Department of Media and Culture Studies) and the University of Bologna (Department of Modern Literature, Languages and Cultures), curriculum EDGES (European PhD in Women’s and Gender Studies).

Her research project, ‘Pop Feminism(s) Against the Grain: Articulations of Agency, Race, and Class’, delves into the realm of popular feminism and how it intersects with issues of agency, race, and class. The analysis focuses on guidebooks as exemplars of mainstream feminism and manifestos as vehicles for counter-narratives. Focusing on the cultural landscapes of the UK, Italy and the U.S., the research is firmly grounded in intersectional feminist studies and explores how feminist narratives navigate complex intersections of identity and existing systems of power. The theoretical framework critically engages with postfeminism and neoliberal feminism, contextualising the study within the evolving landscape of contemporary feminist discourses.
