Frits van Rooy is Professor of Early Detection and Prevention of Occupational Diseases at the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) of the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Medicine of Utrecht University. As an occupational physician, ERT toxicologist, and clinical occupational medicine specialist, he is active at, among others, the Arbo Unie Knowledge Institute for Work and Health, the Academic Collaborative Centre for Risk Analysis of Occupational Exposures, and the NKAL Toxpoli for Clinical Occupational Toxicology in Utrecht.

In addition, he is a member of the Health Council of the Netherlands, serves as Public Health Advisor on Hazardous Substances at GGD Hart van Brabant (until 1 September 2025), conducts scientific research, and is involved in international projects such as the WHO/ILO International Chemical Safety Cards project. He is also a member of the expert panel for the RIVM Compensation Scheme for Substance-Related Occupational Diseases and the Lexces Academy.

His aim is to bridge the gap between science and practice and thereby contribute to improving the prevention and early detection of occupational diseases resulting from exposure to hazardous substances.
