Ferry de Jong studied law (LLM 2002) and Scandinavian studies (MA 2002, cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam and at Universitetet i Bergen, Norway. He obtained his PhD (cum laude) at the Willem Pompe Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology of Utrecht University in 2009.

In the Spring Semester of 2011 he was Visiting Scholar at the Center for Law and Philosophy of Columbia Law School in New York City.

He was appointed as Professor of criminal law and criminal procedure in June 2014.
