Bridging Equity, Inclusion, and Research: An Education Rooted in International and Decolonization History
Frank Gerits is committed to promoting an educational approach that combines equity, inclusion, and research, with a focus on international and decolonization history. As a lecturer, he teaches both BA and MA courses on these important subjects, encouraging students to engage with historical perspectives that challenge established narratives and emphasize global interconnectedness.
Beyond his teaching, Gerits actively works on initiatives to create more equitable and inclusive learning environments. He played a key role in establishing the Diversity Reading List, which expands academic resources by incorporating diverse voices. Additionally, Gerits co-founded the UU Decolonisation Group with Rachel Gillett, where he involves students in educational activities and debates centered on decolonization. His dedication to inclusive teaching was recognized when he was named runner-up for the UHSK-Utrecht History student association docent prize in June 2020.
