Dr. F.D.A. (Daan) Wegener

My name is Daan Wegener (Amsterdam, 1982). I am a lecturer at Utrecht University. Following my dissertation, A True Proteus: a History of Energy Conservation in German Science and Culture, 1847-1914 (Utrecht, 2009), I have been teaching introductory and advanced courses in topics related to the history of science. My range of interest includes the history of physics and chemistry, representations of science in literature and video games, and the complex historical relation between magic and science.

Recently, I initiated a teaching innovation project designed to renovate the curriculum of the master History and Philosophy of Science by developing and co-teaching two History of Knowledge courses. Together with colleagues, we were able to let go of existing narrative frameworks and create something novel and fresh.
