Fergus is a PhD Candidate working across the Innovation Studies and Environmental Sciences groups at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. He holds an MSci in International Relations and Global Issues (Hons) from the University of Nottingham and an MSc in Ecological Economics from the University of Leeds. Fergus has an interdisciplinary background in political ecology, environmental democracy, ecological economics and just transitions.
His PhD project, entitled "Circular transitions in a global context: The impact of regionally diverse circular consumption patterns on climate change mitigation," will assess how circular consumption practices and patterns differ across geographic regions, with a particular focus on developing narratives of circular consumption in the Global South. These circular consumption narratives should provide insights into regionally diverse material flows which, coupled with advances from the EU-funded CIRCOMOD project on circular consumption, will contribute towards climate change scenario building in the IMAGE Integrated Assessment Model.
