Even when we think we are making rational choices, we are often influenced by factors we are not aware of. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Animal Behaviour & Cognition group at Utrecht University, I study how humans and other primates make decisions, and why these decisions sometimes seem ‘irrational’. In my Veni project, I use virtual worlds in which participants search for food to uncover the mechanisms that shape our decision-making strategies.
