Emma Pullen is a researcher and PhD candidate at the Utrecht University School of Governance (USG). Within the Public Management Group, she is involved in research projects focused on robust crisis governance in turbulent times as well as the digital transformation. Emma is thus part of two international consortia funded by the European Union. Moreover, in her doctoral research, Emma focuses on the role of public professionals (such as doctors, teachers, and police officers) in addressing pressing societal issues (regarding e.g., public health, migration and inequality) in turbulent times (including crises), with specific attention to distinctive contexts (such as small islands).
Emma has knowledge of qualitative research methods, in part due to her previous work as a research assistant at USG. Additionally, she has gained experience at various other public as well as private organizations, ranging from management consulting firms to local government institutions.
