Erich Wolff (google scholar profile) is a researcher and educator specialized in climate adaptation with over a decade of experience implementing nature-based solutions (NbS) across Europe, Latin America and the Asia Pacific region. His work explores how the design, governance and monitoring of nature-based solutions can reduce the risk of disasters, improve health and support livelihoods in various contexts. Erich is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University working in the Climate Adaptation and Resilience Demonstrated in the Mediterranean Region (CARDIMED). 

The implementation of urban nature-based solutions has gained currency as a strategy to support climate adaptation in cities globally. While these solutions can significantly improve living conditions and contribute to ecological restoration, successful projects require careful consideration of local specificities and community needs. Erich's work draws on experiences in Asia (Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore), Oceania (Fiji, Solomon Islands and Australia) and more recently Europe (Mediterranean region) to reflect on how to develop more context-sensitive NbS that address the needs of people and ecoystems. Examining aspects of participation, justice and institutionalization, this research investigates gaps in the interface between research and practice and highlight priorities for mainstreaming NbS.
