Elif Erken is a PhD candidate at the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice of Utrecht University. She works at the Institute of Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Legal Theory and is as fellow affiliated with the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM).

 

Her PhD research focuses on problems with national implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. In this respect, she investigates how the procedural role of national human rights institutions and organised civil society in the ECHR system can contribute to better compliance. 

 

This research project is supervised by prof. Janneke Gerards and prof. Antoine Buyse.
