My research focuses on how AI technology mediates (scientific) understanding and shapes norms of information sharing, scientific modeling, explanation, and the ethical consequences that follow. This research programs spans fundamental questions in philosophy of science on the nature of scientific modeling and explanation, fundamental questions in epistemology on the nature of understanding and epistemic norms to concrete societal questions concerning misinformation spread on social media and the justifiable use of AI in science and society.
