Dr. Ed E. Moret finished Gymnasium-b at Gymnasium Camphusianum in Gorinchem in 1979. He studied pharmacy in Utrecht until 1988. In 1993 he finished his Ph.D. in Utrecht on a study of calculations and simulations of DNA-alkylating cytostatics under supervision of prof. L.H.M. Janssen and prof. J.P.A.E. Tollenaere. During a stay at the group from prof. A.J. Olson, Molecular Biology department of the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla (San Diego, California, USA), he carried out research on the molecular recognition of antigens by antibodies with computer docking.

In 1994 he was employed at the department of Medicinal Chemistry as assistant professor. His expertise is in the field of computational medicinal chemistry, computer-aided drug discovery, cheminformatics and bioinformatics. Molecular recognition still is his primary interest, particularly in the field of auto-immune diseases and he has supervised several Ph.D. and master students.

Ed Moret has taught courses for students of pharmacy, chemistry, UCU and (bio)medical sciences, as well as Ph.D. courses in bioinformatics and computer-aided drug discovery. He has his BKO- teaching qualification since 1998, his SKO- teaching qualification since 2008, and he participated in the “Centre of Excellence in University Teaching” class of 2005-2006. He was voted “teacher of the year” three times by the Pharmacy students.

Furthermore, Moret was a member of several educational programme committees since 1999, and has been a member of the management team of the School of Pharmacy since 2001. He developed and coordinated the master’s programme Drug Innovation, the profile Drug Regulatory Sciences as well as the Honours programme Pharmaceutical Sciences in the recent past.

In 2008 Moret followed the class on "Future Academic Leadership". In January 2010 he started as Managing Director of the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, as successor to dr. Jaap Wilting.

Moret was member of the editorial board of the journals Medicines and Conceptuur for Dutch medicine research and he is secretary of the Board of FIGON (2016), secretary of the Raad voor de Farmaceutische Wetenschappen (2024) and member of the Board of Stichting Farmaceutische Erfgoed (2024). He is married and has three children.
