Eddy Bauw is Professor of Private Law and Administration of Justice at the University of Utrecht.
Since January 1, 2016 he is Director of the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice.
From 2016 to 2022 he was chairman of the Molengraaff Institute for Private Law at Utrecht University.
He is als deputy judge at the Court of Appeal at The Hague.
From 2009 to 2018 he also held the chair on Administration of Justice at the University of Amsterdam (inaugural lecture 'Judiciary in times of crisis', 2011).
From 2004 to 2022 he also was deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of Arnhem-Leeuwarden and from 1994 to 2014 he was deputy-judge at the court in The Hague.
Until December 2015 Bauw was Head of the Department of Strategy at the Council for the Judiciary.
In this position he was responsible for the recommendations of the Council to the legislator, international cooperation, legal quality and scientific research.
From 1993 to 2002 he worked as a legislative lawyer (from 1996 as a coorindator) for the Private Law Section of the Ministry of Justice.
From 1988-1992 Eddy Bauw worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Private Law and the Centre for Environmental Law at the University of Amsterdam.
In 1994, he got his PhD cum laude from this University with a thesis entitled "Non-contractual liability for soil contamination."
