Dr. van Erven is partly organized under the Community Arts Lab of the Peace Treaty of Utrecht (CAL-U, which van Erven co-founded in 2006) and by the International Community Arts Festival (ICAF) in Rotterdam. For CAL-U he currently works with a budget of over € 500.000 on a two-day symposium on community arts reconciliation, to be held on 20 en 21 June 2013. Connected to this project are five groundbreaking international exchange trajectories, a new book publication and a video documentary on seven years CAL-U research. CAL-U receives financial support from the Netherlands Fund for Cultural Participation, Doen Foundation (Dutch Lottery Fund), the V-Fund, and the City and Province of Utrecht.
ICAF is a program line of the Rotterdams Wijktheater (RWT, Rotterdam Neighborhood Theatre), one of the oldest community arts enterprises in the Netherlands. In april 2012 RWT received word that it would be awarded an annual subsidy of € 411.000 for the 2013-2016 period. This enhances the chances that the € 200,000 ICAF grant application with the Netherlands Fund for Culture Participation will be viewed favorably.
Both CAL-U and ICAF offer unique opportunities for conducting internationally recognized research in close collaboration with leading scholars and artists in the rapidly growing field of community arts. Output consists of symposiums, public events, book publications and video productions.
