Danae Kleida teaches in the Department of Media and Culture Studies of Utrecht University. Danae graduated from Utrecht University (NL) with a Research Master's (cum laude) in Media & Performance Studies (2018). Prior to her post-graduate studies in the Netherlands, she graduated with a BA in Communication, Media, and Culture from Panteion University (Athens, GR) and a BFA in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance from Kontaxaki Professional Ballet School (Athens, GR). Her research revolves around media theory, early modern dance, early cinema, gestures, and motion documentation systems. Her master's thesis examines historical methods of dance notation and the current practices of digital movement annotation. During her studies, Danae worked with prof. Bleeker for the creation of the Transmission in Motion research community (Utrecht University). Currently, she's conducting research on dance annotation and the Choreographic Coding Labs at Hochschule Mainz in Germany for Motion Bank while collaborating with festivals and research institutions such as FIBER Festival & NODE Forum for the production of cultural events and labs.
