Danse de Bondt is lecturer (DIO) at the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University. She studied Cultural Anthropology (BSc) and Cultural Anthropology: Sociocultural Transformations (MSc) at Utrecht University (2009-2015). She has a PhD in legal anthropology from Tilburg Law School and the University of Edinburgh (2017-2023). Danse ethnographically studied the role of alcohol in governing practices in rural Uganda. She focussed on the relationship between goverment institutions and clan councils in rural Uganda and explored how people working for these institutions relate to, cooperate and compete with each other for sovereignty in the district. Her data illustrates how traditional alcohol plays a crucial role in distinguishing clan councils from the state.
