Caia Vlieks is assistant professor of constitutional law at Utrecht University and connected to the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice. She is also a fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM).

Caia defended her dissertation on nationality and statelessness in Europe in June 2022 at Tilburg University, obtaining her PhD. She holds a master in legal research (cum laude) and in international and European public law (cum laude) from the same university.

Until her PhD defense, Caia worked at Tilburg University as lecturer and researcher. She combined this role with the position of programme lead at the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion (2020-2023) and an appointment as associate tutor at the University of London (2018-2021). 

Caia is interested in legal questions around nationality, citizenship, fundamental rights, statelessness and migration in particular.
