Chris Phielix has been Manager of ICT & Education (ICTO) at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Utrecht University since 1 July 2016. In this role, he focuses on the strategic and practical use of ICT to support and enhance educational processes within the faculty.

His connection to the university goes back even further: between 1999 and 2004, Chris studied Educational Sciences at the same institution. After graduating, he worked there as a junior lecturer. From December 2004 to May 2005, he was employed as a research assistant at Cito in Arnhem, after which he worked as an educational consultant at Float Onderwijspartners in Doorn until the end of 2006.

Between 2006 and 2012, Chris completed his PhD research, which focused on the social aspects of group functioning. His research explored how peer-feedback tools can help groups become more aware of their socio-emotional group behaviour and how reflection instruction can support behavioural change at the individual level.

From January 2011 to June 2012, Chris worked as a researcher and thesis supervisor at the Leren van Docenten expertise centre, part of the Interfaculty Centre for Teacher Education, Educational Development and Training (ICLON) at Leiden University. He then returned to Utrecht University, where he served as a lecturer in Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences from January 2012 to July 2016.

Between 2014 and 2016, Chris was involved in three research projects on teacher attrition, teacher responsibility, and academically trained primary school teachers.

His expertise lies at the intersection of education and technology. Key areas of interest include computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), socio-emotional group behaviour, peer assessment, peer feedback and reflection tools, teacher attrition, teacher responsibility, and academically trained primary school teachers (ALPO).
