Christopher F. Julien (he/they) is a science philosopher with a professional practice on the intersection of culture and ecology. He is based in Zaandam, NL. 

His PhD research at Utrecht University, supervised by Iris van der Tuin, moves between philosophy of science and political ecology. His dissertation focuses on new materialisms and decolonial ecology, developing techniques for ecological governance in times of collapse. Julien sits on the boards of various cultural organisations (a.o. Mediamatic and Nicole Beutler Projects) and holds cum laude masters degrees in Cultural Analysis and in Conflict Studies & Human Rights. He is the co-initiator of the Cultural Assembly for the climate, now run by Het Nieuwe Instituut.

His work has been published in MATTER: Journal for New Materialist Research, Krisis | Journal for Contemporary Philosophy, The More Posthuman Glossary and Valiz, next to the popular non-fiction book ‘Alledaags activisme’ (Everyday activism) with Uitgeverij Podium. Early 2027 his second book ‘Toekomstdieren’, on ecopopulism, will appear with Uitgeverij De Geus. He is a regular contributor to NRC and columnist for OneWorld magazine.
