Bárbara Oliveira Soares is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University, under the supervision of Dr. Krisztina Varró, Dr. Irina van Aalst, and Dr. Ilse van Liempt. Her research focuses on exploring current gender-sensitive and feminist planning practices in the Netherlands.

Bárbara holds a B.Sc. in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics (PPLE) from the University of Amsterdam, and M.Sc. degrees in Urban Geography as well as Urban and Regional Planning, also from the University of Amsterdam. Before joining Utrecht University, she received a research fellowship at the Urban Cycling Institute and worked as a visiting fellow at the University of Amsterdam, where she investigated equity and mobility justice in active transportation in Amsterdam.
