dr. Ben Nelemans is assistant professor at the Department of Biology. In his teaching and public engagement, he is fascinated by how living tissue develops and evolves, resulting in a specific anatomy/physiology. Many important human-societal questions and medical needs are close to these disciplines (embryology, evolution, and anatomy) and that is why Ben thinks it is important to teach his students these topics.

His main research interests are morphogenesis, evolution of development (evo-devo), physiology and anatomy, mechanobiology, microscopy, cell differentiation, and educational research.

In 2022-2023, Ben was chosen as Biology Teacher of the Year on behalf of the Biology students.
