Arnout Geeraert is Assistant Professor at Utrecht University, Utrecht School of Governance. His research explores public-private interactions in global governance and the European Union’s role as an international actor, with a specific empirical focus on sport.
His work has appeared in leading journals such as Journal of European Public Policy, Journal of European Integration, Public Administration, Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning, and Public Management Review. He is the author of "The EU in international sports governance" (Palgrave, 2016) and co-editor of "Good governance in sport: Critical reflections (Routledge, 2022).
He currently acts as the president of the Integrity Commission of the Belgian Football Association. He was a member of the UNESCO MINEPS VI Working Group "Protecting the Integrity of Sport" and of the International Partnership against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) Task Force on “Optimising the Processes of Compliance with Good Governance Principles to mitigate the Risk of Corruption”. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee for Temporary Employment Activities and Activities for Sports Agents of the Flemish Government, acted as a consultant for the Council of Europe, and advised the EU Expert Group on Good Governance.
He developed the Sports Governance Observer, National Sports Governance Observer, and National Anti-Doping Governance Observer benchmarking tools for good governance in sport organizations and devised a code and indicators of good governance in sport federations on behalf of the Flemish government.
