Annemarie started to study Veterinary Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University in 2001. During her studies she was allowed to participate in the Honors Program of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2005, with a study on ‘The genetic cause of pituitary dwarfism in German shepherd dogs’. She won the prize for the best poster presented at the Veterinary Science Day 2006 of the Institute of Veterinary Research, and the Intervet International Award for the best endocrine abstract presented at the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine congress in 2006. In 2007, she attended the Veterinary Leadership Program at Cornell University, Ithaca NY, USA, where she performed a 3-month research project on ‘Quantitative analysis of intraspecific behavior in tame and aggressive silver foxes’. After she graduated (with honors) in 2009, she started a 1-year rotating internship at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. After successful completion of the internship she started her residency program in veterinary internal medicine of companion animals, combined with PhD research focused on canine pituitary dwarfism, at the same department (2010-2015). Her research was rewarded with the Young Researcher Award for the best research abstract presented at The Summer Congress in 2011. In 2016 Annemarie joined the Internal Medicine Team of Sydney University. She worked at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney (UVTHS) for 2 years. She is currently working as a Specialist in Veterinary Internal Medicine (DVM, PhD, Dipl. ECVIM-CA) at the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University.
