In her research, Marlou analyzed 11 compensation schemes for occupational diseases from a legal-dogmatic perspective. She also examined how these schemes are perceived by affected individuals, conducting 58 in-depth interviews and a survey study. Based on her findings, she formulated important recommendations for addressing current challenges in the field of occupational diseases.
Marlou also researches on non-pecuniary damages, particularly the compensation of fear, shock, and relational damages. She is also involved in interdisciplinary research on politically sensitive cases and public trust in the judiciary.
