Ton Hoenselaars is professor in Early Modern English Literature at the University of Utrecht. His research concentrates on early modern English literature (with a special focus on Shakespeare) and its international relations. He has published widely on images of nations in Renaissance literature, literature in translation, and on Shakespeare in European culture from 1600 to the present day. He is the author of Images of Englishmen and Foreigners in the Drama of Shakespeare and His Contemporaries (Associated U Presses, 1992), and the (co)editor of a number of collections, including Shakespeare's Italy (Manchester UP, 1993, 1972), The Italian world of English Renaissance Drama (U of Delaware P, 1998), Vreemd volk (Amsterdam UP, 1998), The Author as Character (Fairleigh Dickinson UP, 1999), 400 Years of Shakespeare in Europe (U of Delaware Press, 2003), Shakespeare and the Language of Translation (Arden Shakespeare, 2004), Shakespeare's History Plays (Cambridge UP, 2004, 2006), and Challenging Humanism (U of Delaware P, 2005). More recently, he published the Cambridge Companion to Shakespeare and Contemporary Dramatists (2012), Multilingualism in the Drama of Shakespeare and His Contemporaries (with Dirk Delabastita [John Benjamins, 2015]), and Shakespeare Forever! Leven en mythe, werk en erfenis (Wereldbibliotheek, 2017). Together with Ieme van der Poel he has annotated the revised Dutch translation of Marcel Proust, A la Recherche du Temps Perdu (De Bezige Bij, 2009-2018). He is currently completing a monograph on Shakespeare and World War I. He was the 2012 Sam Wanamaker Fellow at Shakespeare's Globe in London.
