Prof. Dr. Rens van de Schoot works as a full professor of collaborative Methods in AI and Data Science at Utrecht University in the Netherlands and as an extra-ordinary professor at North-West University in South Africa. He is also the director of the AI-LAB on AI-aided Knowledge Discovery and coordinator of the open-source ASReview project (Active learning for systematic text reviewing).
Short bio:
I first studied Medical imaging techniques and worked for four years at the university hospital in Utrecht, The Netherlands. After this, I started studying again, completed my Psychology bachelor with a minor in juvenile delinquency, and graduated cumlaude for the research master Development and Socialization of Children and Adolescents. I obtained my PhD (also cumlaude and awarded the APA-award for best dissertation of division 5) on applying Bayesian statistics to real-life data at the Department of Methods and Statistics. I obtained a VENI (on Integrating background knowledge about traumatic stress experienced after trauma into statistical models assessing individual change over time) and a VIDI (on Experts, their prior knowledge, and the issue of limited data). I am a member of the Young Academy (Jonge Akademie) of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and elected member of the Society of Multivariate Experimental Psychology (SMEP).
