Curator of printed works
Since September 2023, Andrea is curator of printed works at the Special Collections of Utrecht University Library.
Postdoc European Dimensions of Popular Print Culture
In 2022-2023, Andrea worked as a postdoc researcher in the project European Dimensions of Popular Print Culture, led by Dr. Jeroen Salman. Together with the Digital Humanities Lab, a virtual research environment is being developed that makes it possible to analyse metadata and selected full texts and images of early modern popular print from various collections.
PhD research
On 21 October 2022, Andrea successfully defended her PhD dissertation Woodcuts as reading guides: How images shaped knowledge transmission in medical-astrological books in Dutch (1500-1550). The monography of the same title was published by Amsterdam University Press at the end of 2023, in the series Bijdragen tot de Geschiedenis van de Nederlandse Boekhandel.
Research fellowships
In 2022 Andrea was awarded a fellowship of the Tiele-stichting for research into the international tradition of so-called Calendars of Shepherds (15th-16th centuries).
In 2019 Andrea was awarded two short-term fellowships, from the Renaissance Society of America and the Bibliographical Society of America.
Dutch Book Historical Society
Andrea was a Board Member of the Dutch Book Historical Society (Nederlandse Boekhistorische Vereniging) from June 2018 until September 2024, and Co-Chair from September 2022 until September 2024.
Faculty council
From September 2017 to August 2020, Andrea was a member of the Humanities Faculty Council.
Utrecht Centre for Medieval Studies
From September 2016 to July 2021, Andrea was a Board Member of the Utrecht Centre for Medieval Studies.
Artes literature
As a member of the Werkgroep Middelnederlandse Artesliteratuur (WEMAL, Study Group Middle Dutch Artes Literature) since 2008, Andrea collaborates on transcriptions and digital editions of medieval artes manuscripts. Artes literature encompasses texts with an instructive goal, such as recipes, or treatises about surgery, magic or astrology.
Communications advisor/editor
From 2007 to 2016, Andrea worked as a news editor and external communications advisor at the Communications & Marketing department of the Faculty of Humanities. Among other things, she was the editor-in-chief of HUMmagazine and of the Faculty's corporate website www.uu.nl/hum. In 2021-2022 she took up the function again for a few months as a temporary replacement.
Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen
From 2006 to 2014 Andrea was a board member of the Stichting Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen, which aimed to make a wide audience familiar with the work of this 16th-century artist. After the successful exhibition 'Van Oostsanen - the first Dutch master' (Amsterdam Museum, Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, 15 March - 29 June 2014) the Foundation has ended its activities as its goals have been achieved.
Education
In 2005 Andrea graduated cum laude at Utrecht University in the MA programme 'Taal en cultuurstudies' (Language and culture studies). Her thesis was about illustrated manuscripts and early prints of the story of St. Brendan (13th-15th century).
