Annemie Struyf is an assistant professor in the Department of Education at Utrecht University. She obtained her Master's degree in Social Work in 2014 and completed her PhD in Educational Sciences in 2019 at the University of Antwerp. She is driven by research that arises from contemporary societal needs and changes, aiming to contribute to the improvement of educational practice, equality in education, and enhanced well-being of various stakeholders (particularly students and teachers).

She has expertise and experience in various practice-oriented research projects. In these projects, she took on an evaluative role to examine the perceptions of various educational stakeholders during times of change, mainly drawing on qualitative research methods (interviews, focus groups, observations). For example, during her doctoral research, she evaluated the experiences and involvement of students with a newly developed STEM curriculum in secondary schools as part of the STEM@school project (2014-2018). This project won the EAPRIL Best Practice-Based Research Award in 2017. Additionally, she conducted the final evaluation of a pilot project focused on workplace learning in Flanders, evaluating inhibiting and facilitating factors for practice based on the perceptions of teachers and students.

As a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam from 2020 to 2022, she contributed to evaluating the resilience of Dutch schools during the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, the research examined how schools shaped school-family partnerships.

Currently, Annemie is involved in the project Expedite Lerarenagenda. This project takes a systemic approach to examine adaptive capacity in relation to future-proof teaching, also investigating the experiences and perceptions of educational professionals during times of change. Another recent research interest of hers concerns the role of AI in education and how education, students, and educational professionals adapt to it.

In addition to her research, Annemie is actively involved in teaching in the bachelor's and master's programs in Educational Sciences and the ALPO (Academic Teacher Training for Primary Education). She teaches courses in Learning in Organizations, School Organization and Change Management, International Perspectives on Education, and supervises internships, bachelor's, and master's theses.
