Antoine Buyse is full professor of human rights from a multidisciplinary perspective and director of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) at Utrecht University. Within the university, he is connected to the Utrecht Centre for Global Challenges (UGLOBE), the Montaigne Centre for Judicial Administration and Conflict Resolution and the  strategic theme 'Institutions for Open Societies'. He is also a member of the Council of Europe’s NGO Law Expert Council and the human rights commission of the Dutch Council on International Affairs. He was the founder of and still runs the ECHR Blog and has developed a Massive Open Online Course on the ECHR. His current research focuses on the human rights of civil society, ‘shrinking civic space’, and the rule of law from below.
