SIG SoTL

The SIG Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is an informal community of teachers that are interested in research-informed teaching in their own classroom, want to provide evidence of or get insight in the learning of their own students. The SIG is place where you can share your experiences and ideas with other teachers from all discipline.

Are you interested in the learning of your students and want to know (if) you’re using the best teaching methods for that purpose? Do you want to base your choices for a teaching method on more than the experiences of someone else, the gut feeling you have that it will work, or it being a hype (‘everybody uses it’)?  Maybe that’s why you, consciously or unconsciously, already started or want to start, using a more systematic, research-informed (SoTL) approach to your teaching. Whether or not you already undertook action, you probably have a lot of questions.  How do I begin with a systematical research-informed approach to my teaching? How do I find educational literature about my teaching problem or question? What other teaching methods would be effective in my teaching context? And when you are already a bit further: how do I analyze data that I have gathered? Or how can I share my experiences and publish in peer-reviewed journals? These and many other questions will be discussed and shared in the SIG meetings (approximately every two months).

In the SIG SoTL you can get inspired by other teachers engaged in SoTL, help each other by sharing your own experiences with SoTL-projects, and together form an expertise network for teachers involved in SoTL. Both you and your students will profit from being part of this SIG!
