First Utrecht Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference

On Thursday the 7th of March, the First Utrecht Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference is organised in the morning, preceding the Onderwijsparade (the annual education day of Utrecht University). The Utrecht Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference aims to provide a platform for disseminating improvements in teaching and learning in Higher Education in an open, inspiring and stimulating atmosphere. Academic teachers in all disciplines are welcome to present studies of their scholarly approaches of teaching and share more profound research on education within their discipline. All participants can experience and learn from these teachers who implemented systematic and evidence-based improvements in teaching and learning or did research on relevant teaching and learning topics within their discipline. In addition, plenty of opportunities are provided to debate and reflect on teaching and learning methods in Higher Education.

Benefit from your education

All teachers are welcome to participate during the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference. For teachers that already focus on Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, this conference functions as a platform to gain ideas and share results. Those teachers are kindly invited to hand in an abstract about their study (see below). The conference will be in English.

Are you willing to enquire your education and learn from others? Join this conference! Participants with and without abstracts, please register here. After the conference you can join the Onderwijsparade about Diversity and inclusion.

9.00 – 9.15 Welcome, coffee/tea
9.15 – 9.30 Opening and introduction into Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (Irma Meijerman, Senior Fellow, Centre for Academic Teaching)
9.30 – 10.45 Workshop: Enlarge your toolkit (Senior Fellows, Centre for Academic Teaching)

What methods are you aiming to use to gather evidence of the effectiveness of your teaching (and/or teaching innovation)? Finding the right methods to provide evidence of  student learning in a systematic, evidence-based approach of your teaching (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) may prove challenging. Often these methods are unknown to  or rarely used in your own discipline. In this workshop teachers from different disciplines share and discuss methods that can be used to measure student learning, and creative  examples are provided to stimulate you as a teacher to enlarge your ‘toolkit’.
