I want to set up and start using Yoda

You first need to get registered. If you work within a research program, you first contact the program data manager for access (contact persons can be found on this page - then click on your organisational unit), in case of no response you contact the Yoda team.

You will be provided with your own research group. This is a main folder that provides you access to Yoda. In this folder you can work with your data. You can also give others access to your data via your research group.

When emailing the Yoda team to ask for registration, please mention your faculty, research program or one of the strategic themes for which you want to get access. If you are a researcher from a different institute, please mention this when contacting us.

Now that you have your own research group, you can access Yoda in two ways: via a network drive in your file manager and through the website portal.

• Within the network drive, you work with your files just as you normally would do while using your file explorer. You will have direct access to your files via your file explorer. To configure Yoda as a network drive see configure the Yoda network drive (see instructions below).
• In the web portal you can arrange who gets access to your data, archive data and publish data. This is not possible via a network drive. In addition, you can upload and download files, although this will be slower than using Yoda as a network drive.

You will receive the addresses to the different Yoda environments (network drive address and website address) through the Yoda team. You can also check the overview of addresses on this page. For both access points you log-in using your UU email address (j.doe@uu.nl) along with your Solis password. Yoda 1.8 uses two-factor-authentication (2FA) for additional security. With 2FA, accessing your data requires an additional step. You can only log in if you have configured 2FA. Please check this 2FA installation manual. If you have already configured 2FA (e.g., for Office 365 and Teams), you don’t need to do anything.

Yoda users without an Utrecht University account will be able to set a password when activating their account; their user name is their email address.

The Yoda Network Disk  

To get access to Yoda through your local file manager, you must map Yoda as a network drive. The instructions for mapping Yoda as a network drive differ per operating system: Windows, Mac, or Linux. Click on your operating system to find the instructions applicable for you. Note that the password you must use for the network disk is a data access password.
