Profiel

Ik bestudeer sociologische en historische processen, en geef er colleges over.  Ik ben hoogleraar in de historische sociologie/social science history in Utrecht, en honorary research fellow bij het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis.

Mijn onderzoeksveld is sociale ongelijkheid wereldwijd, 1500-heden.

Mijn onderzoek naar welzijn betreft filantropie, armenzorg, onderlinge hulp en verzekeringen.

Mijn onderzoek naar sociale gelaagdheid en mobiliteit betreft sociale segreaatie, ontwikkelingen in de beroepsstructuuur, sociale mobiliteit tussen de generaties en gedurende de levensloop en sociale homogamie. Ik ben geinteresseerd in vergelijkende historische studies van werk, sociale klasse en sociale status.

Curriculum vitae

Ik heb geschiedenis in Amsterdam gestudeerd en ben daarna als AIO bij het ICS gepromoveerd. Ik heb op verschillende plekken in binnen-en buitenland gewerkt voor ik naar Utrecht kwam, met name op het Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis. Van 2009-14 werkte ik op een ERC-Advanced Grant naar sociale mobiliteit over de afgelopen eeuwen.
