Profiel

I study how technology can support inquiry-based learning processes to improve science education. I received my PhD in Behavioral science in 2014 at University of Twente under professor Wouter van Joolingen and Dr. Jan van der Veen. My dissertation was titled: “Teaching with simulations” (bit.ly/simthesis). During my PhD, I focused my research on how teachers use computer simulations to support inquiry-based teaching and learning. This research resulted in three international publications, including a highly cited (280) review article in the high impact journal Computers & Education. I have presented my research at many national (14) and international (12) meetings, including conferences of EARLI, ESERA, and GIREP-MPTL.

After receiving my PhD, I began a Postdoc in the group of professor Wouter van Joolingen at Utrecht University to work on the project Inspiring Science Education. Presently, I work on the Werfkracht project, focused on how to attract more students to the teacher profession by having them participate in teaching scenarios.

I have taught courses to bachelor and master students on the topics of psychological design (University of Twente), research methodology (Utrecht University), and on how to conduct research in their own teaching practice (Utrecht University).

Organizational work

In the months March and April 2016 I assisted in coordinating and writing a Horizon 2020 research proposal on the topic of Technologies for Learning and Skills. The contents of that proposal are related to the present VENI-proposal, as in both an important role is assigned to motion sensing and tangible interfaces as means to interact with a scientific model.

From 2014 to 2016, I’ve organized the Freudenthal Institute’s colloquium series.
