Research-Practice Partnership, Groots Utrecht

Since January 2023, I am a member of the Advisory-and-Research Board of Groots Utrecht. This is a research-practice partnership (RPP) that allows for conducting research in one of the schools affiliated with the Catholic Schools Association KSU in the city of Utrecht. Some of the main goals of the partnership are improving educational equity, quality and relevance of education and parental involvement, among others via the research that is conducted at the school. Together with colleagues from the partnership, I conducted a first wave of data collection with parents and teachers between April and October 2023, and currently, we are analyzing this data. This is an ongoing project which strives for establishing a sustainable RPP work with all involved stakeholders in the school community.

Raising Muslims in the Netherlands: An exploratory study of parenting support in Turkish-Dutch mosques 01-09-2022 tot 31-12-2023
Algemene projectbeschrijving

In 2022-2023, I conducted a small-scale ethnographic case-study on mosque-based parenting support in a Turkish mosque community in Amsterdam. The main objective of the research is to map the demand by Muslim parents for Islamic parenting support and the supply of that parenting support by mosques. The questions addressed in this study are: 1) What kind of parenting support activities are offered in the Turkish mosques in the Netherlands and with which rationale? 2)What are the experiences of Turkish-Dutch Muslim parents with mosque-based parenting support activities, and what is their motivation for choosing for them? 3)Which gaps in the field of formal parenting support are addressed by mosque-based parenting support activities, and what are the implications of these for formal providers of parenting support and policymakers in Dutch youth care? Publications based on this data are in preparation.
