Salomé Lopes Coelho is a researcher in film and art studies, working at the intersections of cinema, aesthetics, and the environmental humanities. She is a postdoctoral researcher on the ERC project EcoViolence at Utrecht University, where her research addresses the ecologies of extractivist violence in contemporary experimental and collaborative documentaries, from Southern Europe to the Andean Puna.

Before joining Utrecht University, she was a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences at NOVA University Lisbon (2025). She holds a PhD in Artistic Studies from the same university (2021) and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the NOVA Institute of Communication (2022–2025), researching the rhythms of vegetal and inorganic materialities in contemporary Latin American experimental cinema, with a focus on women filmmakers and artists.

Salomé also lectured on cinema and philosophy at the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires (2018, 2021), where she was a visiting researcher in 2016. She is a member of the Eco and Bioart Lab at Linköping University, Sweden, and serves on the editorial board of La Furia Umana—Journal of History and Theory of Cinema.

Beyond academia, Salomé has contributed to film curation, cultural programming and interdisciplinary events with artists and filmmakers, most recently through the programme Moving [Images] Post-Extractivism, currently running at Utrecht University.
