Curriculum vitae

Dr. Stephan Grimmelikhuijsen is an assistant professor at Utrecht University School of Governance. His areas of expertise are: transparency, trust, legitimacy, psychology of public administration, and experimental methodology. 

In 2015 he received a Veni grant of €250.000 from NWO (Dutch Science Foundation) to systematically investiage the effects of court transparency on perceived legitimacy, using an innovative approach that combines experiments with qualitative methods. In 2010 Stephan won a NIG grant for a post-doctoral research project (€50.000). He was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2009) and at Rutgers-Newark University (2013) for which he received a Fulbright grant. 

Stephan published articles in journals such as Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Public Administration Review, Public Administration, Public Management Review and Government Information Quarterly. In 2013 his article “Linking transparency, knowledge and citizen trust in government: an experiment” was awarded best article of 2012 in the International Review of Administrative Science. He was awarded the prestigious Van Poelje Prize for writing the best public administration dissertation in the Netherlands and Flanders  

Furthermore, Stephan is involved in policy and innovation oriented research and has worked with the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment and the Dutch Police. He is also involved in a Horizon 2020 funded project on improving the use of open government data (ROUTE-TO-PA, http://routetopa.eu/).
