Pedagogiek in Diverse Samenlevingen

My research work focuses on dominant discourses on national identity that can create 'otherness'. In the context of The Netherlands I am curious to know which dominant discourses on 'Dutchness' exist that can be experienced as discriminatory and how these discourses are reframed by social movement organizations.

As national identities are collectively imagined, created, and not fixed, they are prone to contest over inclusion and exclusion but also to renegotiation and chance. The overall aim of my PhD research is to understand how a broader and more inclusive national identity can emerge, and to explore the role of dialogue in this process.

My research is affiliated with the departement Development and Education of Youth in Diverse Societies (DEEDS).
