René Brouwer (PhD Cambridge, MPhil Utrecht, LLM Amsterdam) is a lecturer at the University of Utrecht, where he teaches philosophy and law in the Faculty of Law. In 2013-14 he held a visiting professorship Philosophie der Antike und Moderne at the Humboldt University, Berlin, in 2022-23 he held a fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Surrey.

He publishes on a variety of subjects in the philosophy and history of law as well as in ancient philosophy. His monograph on the consequential interaction between Roman jurists and Hellenistic philosophers, Law and Philosophy in the Late Roman Republic, has recently been published with Cambridge University Press. His monograph on the Stoic sage is available in paperback (2018).
