Marjan van Dijk has worked in education for over 25 years both as a teacher and teacher educator. As a researcher she is affiliated with Utrecht University with her main interests lying in the field of Gender and Education. A particular focus point is how teachers are connected or, more aptly, opened up to gender sensitivity in their classrooms and in their classes. To what extend is gender a topic of interest in the training of teachers? How can life experiences be an asset to gender sensitivity in teachers? Is gender therefore a 'topic' to be taught or should it be integrated in our general curriculums? And where do we start. All these questions play a major role in this research.
