Tim is associate professor at the Department of Education at this university and visting professor (Program-Professur) at Konstanz University (GER) at the Binational School of Education.

He was trained as a cognitive psychologist and obtained his doctorate at the department of Education at Utrecht University. His dissertation focussed on the development of interpersonal teacher-student relationships in secondary education.

Tim’s current work focuses on (modelling) social dynamics in educational settings and on the effect of these dynamics on student and teacher outcomes (socio-emotional and academic).

He has two main lines of research: (1) variance decomposition featuring advanced multilevel modelling of social relations (RUBICON-grant) and (2) time-series analysis based on innovative observational techniques (continuous coding of teacher and student interpersonal behavior, ambulatory physiological assessment, eye-tracking in-situ) (also see VENI-grant). Next to a strong theoretical focus, an overarching theme in his research are ecological validity and practical relevance.

Tim teaches the integrated practical of the research master Educational Sciences, supervises (research) master's thesises and has been involved in devolping and teaching courses on applied research for student teachers (ALPO - academische Pabo). He also teaches a course on interpersonal aspects of teaching for the graduate school of teaching.

Tim has earned his earned his university teaching qualification (BKO) in 2008.
