Traffic Control: optimal flow of nutrients to developing mushrooms
Madalina will experimentally quantify temporal and spatial transport of stable isotope-labelled nutrients within Agaricus bisporus' mycelium. In addition she will add further insights into the compost food web with the help of biomarker analysis and nanoSIMS imaging. These datasets will be used as input for a multifactorial model that enables a rational design of conditions promoting formation of an optimal feeding mycelium. This should result in higher mushroom yields and reduced waste streams with possible applications in other industrial or/and natural environments.
