Before joining Utrecht Univesity in 2017, Luisa García-Manso was a postdoctoral researcher at the Universität Passau in Germany, where she held an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship. Previously, she developed her PhD research in the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) with a National Research Fellowship. Her dissertation on the construction of collective identities in the historical drama written by women received the Doctorate Award in Arts and Humanities of the Universidad de Oviedo (Género, identidad y drama histórico escrito por mujeres en España (1975-2010), Oviedo: KRK, 2013). She has a Master's degree in Gender Equality Studies in Human, Social and Legal Sciences (UIMP-CSIC) and a five-year Bachelor's degree in Hispanic Philology (Universidad de Oviedo).
Luisa's research interests lie at the intersection between Gender Studies and Contemporary Spanish Theatre and Culture. Her research addresses significant social and political challenges of our time: equality, diversity, and inclusion. She is committed to investigating how cultural representations influence society by endorsing, challenging, or transforming our perceptions of ourselves and others. Her current research project focuses on cultural institutions and theatre participation's role in empowering communities, overcoming social prejudices, and building more cohesive societies. She has participated in five triennial Spanish national research projects on gender, cultural industries, and contemporary women writers.
Her articles have been published in international peer-reviewed research journals such as Annals of Contemporary Spanish Literature, Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Estreno, Hispania, Iberoromania, New Theatre Quarterly, Romance Studies, and Signa.
She is a member of the Research Group InGenArTe (Gender Studies in Cultural Industries and Performing Arts), the Red Internacional de Investigación y Aprendizaje “Memoria y Narración” (International Research and Learning Network “Memory and Narration”), FENIX: Network for Research on Women Exiles & Migrants, and The Memory Studies Association. She is also an alumna of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
