Marlot Kuiper is Assistant Professor of Public Management at Utrecht School of Governance.

In 2020, Marlot succesfully defended her PhD dissertation “Connective Routines”. In this ethnographic study in surgical care, Marlot analyzes the standardization of professional practices through a routine perspective. This study was funded by NWO (Research Talent Grant, grant number NWO 406 13 087)

Between March 2019 and February 2021 she also worked as Postdoctoral researcher on the Horizon2020 ‘COGOV’ project in which 10 partners from 6 member states study best practices of strategic renewal in Europe.

Currently, Marlot works as on several (international) research projects, such as the Horizon2020 ROBUST project on robust crisis governance in turbulent times, network collaborations on preventive healthcare, and interprofessional collaboration on societal turbulence and radicalization. Further, as consultant for USBO advies she works on various projects for a diversity of (public) organizations.

In her work, Marlot predominantly focuses on the reconfiguration of (frontline) professional work. Societal and technological developments - e.g. diversity, turbulence, AI - raise important questions about what professionalism nowadays means and how professional work can be organized to deliver flexible services and sustainable outcomes.

Marlot teaches several courses on bachelor, master and executive level. For example, she teaches Qualitative Research  (bachelor) and Public Professionalism (master program Public Management) and supervises theses (bachelor, master, executive).

Marlot is also actively involved in the UU interdisciplinary focus areas Professional Performance and Security in Open Societies (SOS).
