Besides his academic affiliation, Matthijs holds a position as Principal Scientist at Dialogic (Utrecht, NL). Dialogic is a 30fte private research firm highly active in the field of evaluations and strategic studies on science and innovation policy. In his role as the firm’s Principal Scientist, Matthijs oversees many of the studies related to novel methods for analyzing and developing new generations of innovation policies. Often acting as project leader, he has (co-)authored about 85 studies for clients like the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Ministry of Education Culture and Science, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management, Rijkswaterstaat, the European Commission and the OECD. He's also been involved in policy projects in Australia, Greece, Sweden and several other countries.
