Maria Forcellino is affiliated researcher at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON) at Utrecht University (since 2018). She has been Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Salerno (1996-2010) and fellow at the Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (KNIR, 2015-2017).

Her research focuses on two subjects: Renaissance Studies, particularly the figures of Michelangelo (Michelangelo, Vittoria Colonna e gli « spirituali ». Religiosità e vita artistica a Roma negli anni Quaranta, Roma : Viella 2009; Adriano VI, Michelangelo e la «S.ta memoria de Julio», Atti del convegno internazionale “Il papato breve di Adriano VI. It is a two-language publication, a transcription of Meerman’s text and its Italian translation forthcoming in spring 2025 (Quasar Edizioni).
